YOU Deserve Better Beauty

As a health coach I’ve always talked about how I support eating a whole foods diet rich in nutrients eliminating toxins and pesticides whenever possible as well as adding supplements when needed, getting exercise, practicing self care and hitting the sack early enough in order to get 7-8 hours of sleep each night. I’ve even had many chats with people about how to support their immune system, combat everyday ailments and even clean their house naturally with essential oils. Well, over the last few months I have come to realize that there is something HUGE missing from this conversation. Did you know that there are more than 85,000 chemicals on the market today with thousands being added each year. Many of these are toxic and don’t require any safety data to be posted about them. This is particularly true of those used in the skincare and beauty industry. So you may find yourself eating healthy and working out but then going home from the gym and lathering yourself in seemingly harmless but completely lethal scrubs, lotions, wrinkle cream and make up. That doesn’t have to happen anymore!

I am so excited that I have that I have found a company that believes in getting safe products into the hands of everyone while establishing a new health and safety standard in this highly unregulated personal care market. YOU deserve better beauty so without further adieu I would like to introduce you to Beautycounter.

I joined Beautycounter because YOUR health counts and YOUR family matters. My passion has grown beyond the plate and it is being fueled by bringing as much information as I can to YOU about any and all toxic ingredients that affect YOUR wellness. I am dedicated to bringing you safe, beautiful, luxurious products as well as delicious recipes, exercise and healthy living tips.

Here is a gift, it is called THE NEVER LIST, the short list of all the ingredients that Beautycounter refuses to allow in their products. You can use this list to check the products that you use and see where you might consider making some upgrades.

Never List

Here are several definitions for you to ponder…

Coal tar hair dyes and other coal tar ingredients: a byproduct of coal processing that is a known carcinogen. It is used as a colorant and an anti-dandruff agent. Found in: hair dye, shampoo.

Parabens (methyl-, isobutyl-, proply- and others): a class of preservatives commonly used to prevent the growth of bacteria and mold. Parabens are endocrine (or hormone) disruptors, which alter important hormone mechanisms in our bodies. Specially, parabens mimic estrogen; they can lock on to our cell’s own estrogen receptors and mess with important natural signals. They may play a role in triggering breast cancer. Found in: shampoo, face cleanser, body wash, body lotion, foundation.

Polyethylene glycol (PEG compounds): PEGs are widely used in cosmetics as thickeners, solvents, softeners, and moisture-carriers. Depending on manufacturing processes, PEGs may be contaminated with measurable amounts of ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane, which are both carcinogens. Found in: creams, sunscreen, shampoo.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS and SLES): SLS and SLES are surfactants that can cause skin irritation or trigger allergies. SLES is often contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, a byproduct of a petrochemical process called ethoxylation which is used to process other chemicals in order to make them less harsh. Found in: shampoo, body wash, bubble bath.

This is great information that everyone needs to know before they go shopping. I stick to the basics for so much of my skin care…coconut oil, olive oil. Thanks for putting this together.
